As you know, there are gazillions of weight loss fitness programs, products and services on the market; each claiming to be the best and the hottest. No doubt, as we approach the holidays there will be another gazillion more to come. Instead of focusing on the latest and what is hot, what I would like to focus on is how to create a truly effective, lasting weight loss program.
Hidden within the title of this article is part of the answer that you seek… “effective and lasting weight loss”. Even those who are looking for a quick fix or just to lose a few pounds to fit into their cocktail dress for the weekend have this subconscious hope. The hope that “it sure would be nice if I could lose weight, get toned and keep my results”. So the first step to focus on is to make sure that the program that you build or the one that you seek offers effective long lasting results.
How to achieve sustainable results
Step 1.
The sound science
In order to deliver a powerful sustainable weight loss program the science must be solid. This means you need a team approach not just a one person knows it all program or a couple of people who are claiming to know everything about weight loss and fitness. Remember, weight loss and obesity is a very complex disease. If it was so easy, over 2/3 of our adult population would not be struggling with this. So don’t get fooled my some young fit trainer flashing their six pack abs. While being fit is essential, having the experience and track record to deliver results take years to acquire; so look for experienced teachers.
Step 2.
If they don’t have a team, run like hell and hold on to your pocket book
When I say team, I mean serious experts with PhDs and MDs next to their names; and I don’t’ mean a bunch of window dressing fly by night experts who only make a quick contribution and then disappear. These people must be actively involved in the development and continuous improvements of the program. Not just one or two experts either; you need many, like 8 – 10 experts or more. There are new scientific discoveries everyday so your team need to be actively involved to keep up with new discoveries in a wide variety of medical and scientific disciplines.
Step 3
The program must be personalized – you are unique, shouldn’t your program be unique?
Most weight loss program manufacturer just need your credit card and shipping address to ship your “new amazing, best weight loss DVD program”. How can the program be the best weight loss DVD or the best weight loss program for cellulite reduction etc. when they do not know anything about you? To deliver the best and most effective weight loss program should start with WHO YOU ARE! Many program claim that you can customize their program. They are the experts, shouldn’t they be the ones who are doing the customization for you? If you were having surgery would you want the doctor to just send you the surgical equipment and give you a few tips on how to customize your surgery?
Step 4
You need a coach!
Which type of teachers do you like better, the ones that give you a big stack of books and then tell you the test is on Friday, or the ones who are patient and take the time to teach and answers questions? By having a coach, your coach can help to motivate and keep you accountable. Always remember, fads and quick fixes just waste your time. What you need is program that actually knows your name and truly has the knowledge and track record to deliver the results you are looking for.
